The Victorian era in the UK was the height of the British Industrial revolution and the highest point of British rule globally. The industrial revolution brought about a great amount of Victorian spending, inventions blossomed due to development funds and technology appeared to be growing at its fastest rate ever.
The Queen at the time (Victoria) ruled between 1837 and 1901 - a lengthy rule for a uk monarch and not the actual reason it is called the Victorian era by many. A lot of other political events and Victorians shaped the era and as a result a lot of things happened both in politics and sensibilities.
Victorian collectables and Victorian antiques are not what you might think they are, well some may be as you get your standard antiques like Victorian furniture, Victorian ceramics and the ever popular Victorian bathing items but due to it being a period of fertile inventive and technological advance there are a number of strange, unique and obscure Victorian antiques and collectables.
From unique ways of solving arduous tasks with Victorian backscratchers, mechanisms for reaching up shelves and other obscure inventions the Victorian collectable has never been more in fashion. Steam engines are another common, although somewhat heavier item of the time, but mostly the Victorians where very aware of publicity, which meant a lot of show, making items like Victorian jewellery, clothing, carts very important. But really Victorian collectables can encompass anything from that era, it was a strong time for Britain and as a result a lot of the items built within Victorian times remain today as lovely Victorian antiques.
